How the school reports pupil progress
The school follows the national curriculum (nc), however the work is considerably modified to allow pupils to participate at their own ability level. Most of our pupils are working significantly below the nc levels that would be expected of the majority of pupils in mainstream schools.
In order that our pupils’ progress can be measured and reported, we use the p scales. The p scales describe some of the important skills, knowledge and understanding that pupils may gain from the nc programmes of study.
There are 8 levels within the p scales which then link to level 1 of the national curriculum.
In brief:
P1 to P3 - show the earliest levels of general attainment. each level is sub divided to reflect the small steps of progress for some pupils.
P4 to p8 show subject related attainment
IEPs
Each child has an individual education plan (iep) and the targets are set twice yearly. This outlines 3 specific targets which are the main focus for that period. these will be shared with home.
Annual Reviews
The annual review meeting is a legal duty as the pupils all have a statement of special educational needs. Reports from all who support your child will be circulated and the meeting allows us to focus on your child’s progress over the year and to set new targets for the next period. It is an important opportunity to meet with staff and members of other agencies supporting your child.
Annual Reports to Parents
These provide an end of year report on all areas of the curriculum. following the report, opportunities are provided to discuss your child’s progress with the staff involved.
Parents’ Evenings
One is held part way through the autumn term which allows pupils to settle in their new class. The other is during the summer term following the annual report. Departments will organise informal opportunities for parents to visit during the school day.
Home / School Diaries
These provide a less formal but important regular means of informing parents of day to day activities and achievements, expected of the majority of pupils of a similar age in mainstream schools. |
